Who is Sarika Bansal?
I am a mom, wife, successful business owner and cybersecurity executive and I enjoy all the roles that I play in my life but there is so much more to this story. Life has not been a bed of roses … I didn’t wake up with glass slippers and a fancy shiny dress every day.
I moved to the USA as a young adult in 1999 for my undergraduate studies. Life in a new country, new language and new people was not easy. I had barely any connection with friends and family back home as phone and internet was not a thing back then. I did not have a car or transportation to go to college or grocery shopping and had to walk miles to save money. From living in shared apartments to sharing groceries – I have done it all.
Fast forward, I met my husband in college and married after we both graduated. I am glad that I married my best friend. I believed in fairy tales … but there was a twist! We started our lives with $300. There are many stories and struggles where we didn’t have money to move across the states, buy groceries or afford necessities but we tried to make most of everything. Regardless, we were happy – together.
We had our daughter in 2008 and life seemed to be perfect, but we were impacted by a life changing event. Something that we find hard to discuss openly even today.
We moved to Cary in 2015. It was a new town. New people. Everything was new for us. felt like that we were back to the drawing board. We slowly built our lives in Cary. We started our Business and got involved with the Community. It was amazing to see the number of lives we could touch through our philanthropic means. We got our professional and personal success here, in Cary.
So, life was not perfect, or success was not given to us on a platter as some gossip mongers are spreading. We worked hard to build the lives that we have today and take pride in our hard work and sacrifices we made to be where we are today, our goal is to help others along the way and share our lessons to support and promote success for those around us.
In November 2022, I was presented with an opportunity to serve the community and I gladly accepted it knowing that this is a volunteer position and will likely impact the job that I worked for ALL my life. I had another challenge to run as an independent or on party lines. As I evaluated my options and next steps, running as an independent candidate made most sense to me. I strongly believe that we can learn something good from both sides. Being independent meant, I will be running without any support of any party or elected officials. Being independent also meant that I must work twice as hard than other party backed or supported candidates in my race. Being independent means that I can be an independent thinker on the Council and prioritize the needs of the people. I am not beholden to any party.
There have been personal sacrifices during this journey where I quit my high paying job to serve my community – Cary. This was my dream job and career, but I see that serving people of this beautiful town that I call home is my true calling and I am excited to be the change that Cary needs. I am excited for the kids that are taking inspiration from my campaign and will run for a bigger office someday.
This is my story from being an immigrant to who I am today. The only “silver” in this story is the “lining” where we built so many great relations during these years that are true investments into our future.
Hard work, discipline and honesty are my assets. I knocked on 2000 doors in Western Cary to understand the grass root issues and things that we can do differently as leaders. Economic development, quality of life and balanced growth will be my guiding factors while making decisions. I will always put people first. I am committed to setting a bar for leadership in West Cary that will be unmatched for years to come.
